The Colorado Trail

486 miles across the heart of the Rockies

Why?

Where did the idea of hiking the Colorado Trail come from? To be honest, I don't really know... When I hiked the PCT I had been dreaming about it for years, hungry for it and wonderstruck by the idea. I've had several friends complete and attempt the Colorado Trail and they all reported back a mostly enjoyable time. I myself have walked sections of the trail on other journeys and wondered "where does this thing go?". In mid June of 2024 I set out on another long walk, I've become restless. While this thru-hike won't be straight from end to end (I've opted to break it into 2 two week sections in order to keep my job...), its still bound to be a helluva adventure!
The Plan & Mileage stats

The Colorado Trail traverses 486 miles from Waterton Canyon near Denver to Durango in the southwest corner of the state. Traversing over the highest terrain in the lower 48, the trail reaches elevations above 13,000' and requires over 89,000' of elevation gain to complete. A beast of a walk.
